NOPD: Eight carjackings reported in 48 hours; five are connected

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – NOPD says of the eight carjackings reported to police over the past 48 hours, detectives believe five of them are connected. Police said the same suspects are wanted in connection with an armed robbery that happened on Chef Menteur Highway.

The cases are just the latest to roll on the Wheel of Justice!

According to NOPD, the following incidents are believed to be connected:

-7700 block of Read Boulevard, Monday, Nov. 21,  2:24 p.m.

The victim was stopped on the side of the road in her 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt when an unknown black male, approximately 20-30 years old with black medium-length hair approached the passenger side window, which was partially down. He was armed with a silver handgun. The suspect got into the passenger seat and ordered the victim to drive to Queisser and Hansbrough, where he told the victim to get out of the car. The victim was not able to get out without her walker so the suspect got her walker out of the car and then helped the victim exit the vehicle. He then fled the scene in the victim’s car.

-8300 block Chef Menteur Highway, Tuesday, Nov. 22, 12:15 a.m.

The victims reported they were approached by several suspects in a small silver car believed to be the Cobalt from Read Boulevard. The victims were robbed of their property including several iPhones.

-Nashville and South Claiborne, Tuesday, Nov. 22, 1:50 a.m.

The victim reported she was stopped at the red light at the intersection of Nashville and South Claiborne avenues when she was rear-ended by a gray four-door vehicle. The car was occupied by three unknown black males. Two of the suspects exited the vehicle, spoke with the victim for a moment then one of the males jumped into the victim’s vehicle and drove off.  The second suspect returned to his vehicle and followed the victim’s vehicle down South Claiborne toward Calhoun Street and then disappeared.

-St. Claude and St. Roch, Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2 a.m.

The suspects reportedly approached the victim in a silver vehicle while stopped at a red light. One suspect exited the silver vehicle and pushed the victim off of her scooter, striking her several times before fleeing with the scooter.

-4927 Michoud Boulevard, Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2:33 a.m.

The victims reported they were sitting inside their brown 2010 Nissan Murano when a silver Chevy Cobalt pulled up and three black males exited the vehicle armed with silver or chrome guns.  The suspects started banging on the victim’s vehicle demanding they get out.  The victims complied and a perpetrator fled in their Murano. The silver Cobalt was seen fleeing the scene with the Nissan. Detectives gave chase and stopped the Cobalt at Morrison and Briarheath where a 16-year-old male suspect was captured. The Nissan has not been located however detectives received information on the other two suspects.

-Nashville and St. Charles, Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2:35 a.m.

The victim reported that she was stopped at a red light at St. Charles Avenue and Nashville Avenue when she was rear-ended by a silver four-door vehicle occupied by four college-aged black males. The victim stepped out of her vehicle to inspect the damage and two of the suspects exited the rear of the silver vehicle and jumped into her red four-door Hyundai Elantra and drove off, followed by the remaining two suspects in the silver vehicle. They were last seen on St. Charles heading toward Napoleon Avenue.
