NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Communications, collaborations, and transparency. That was the message at a joint city, NOPD and FBI press conference about security for New Orleans’ upcoming pride festival.

City officials said there are no credible threats at this time, but they have taken steps to prevent and prepare for anything.

The NOPD and FBI reiterated the ‘See Something, Say Something’ policy which was used during Mardi Gras.

“We cannot do our jobs without the cooperation of all of you,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu said. Adding, “Don’t think anything is too small.”

He also encouraged businesses to check bags and do everything they can to secure their businesses.

“If you are on Bourbon Street, in public places, you do not have a relative expectation of privacy,” Landrieu said.

We spoke with Chuck Kee, the office manager at Bourbon Pub & Parade. He said security measures have been heightened. “We don’t allow backpacks in our bar and we also hired outside security.”

Organizers are expecting 50,000+ people to come out for the festival. 1,500 people are aspected to take part in the parade.

‘Love always wins’ is the theme of this year’s parade at the New Orleans Pride Festival. Its meaning has a bigger significance after last weekend’s mass shooting in Orlando.
