About Behrman Stadium
Constructed in 1938, Behrman Stadium is the second-oldest prep facility in the city, primarily serving Edna Karr and Walker-Landry high schools that together serve 2,396 students. It is operated by the New Orleans Recreation Department and supported by a neighborhood-based booster club and college and professional players who played ball in the stadium. The stadium was named after Algiers native and former five-term New Orleans Mayor Martin Behrman. In addition to the stadium, there is a community pool, tennis courts, track field and gymnasium. Various sports camps are typically held at the park during the summer, including tennis, dance and cheerleading.
The field has showcased many budding football stars, including former Miami Dolphins All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain (Karr 93’), former LSU quarterback Herb Tyler (O.P. Walker 95’), current Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis and Dolphins receive Mike Wallace (both Walker 06’).
