NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Is the roller coaster ride for the abandoned Six Flags theme park finally coming to an end?

Tuesday, entrepreneur Frank Scurlock and a group of local business owners announced plans to redevelop the property in New Orleans East.

The 200-plus acre theme park was closed down in 2005 after severe flooding from Hurricane Katrina.

The multi-billion dollar proposal includes a new resort hotel with a beach swimming pool.

Plans also include the building of an enclosed, international shopping center, twice the size of the Superdome.  Designers say it will be similar to an indoor version of Epcot, where the stalls are leased to countries instead of stores.

The Scurlock family invented the “bounce house” in 1959 and have rented out hundreds of thousands of them, for more than 50 years.
