Metairie woman killed in crash in Folsom

FOLSOM, La. (WGNO) – Louisiana State Troopers say that a 74-year-old Metairie woman was killed after being involved in a crash on LA 25 just north of LA 40 in Folsom.

Investigators say that Sandra M. Buras was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on LA 25, when, for reasons still under investigation, she crashed into the rear of a southbound GMC Pickup truck driven by 58-year-old Mable Starnes Chaney of Franklinton.

After the initial impact, Buras’ vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and crashed into a ditch embankment.

The impact with the embankment caused the Tahoe to become airborne and roll onto its side.

Buras was not restrained at the time of the crash and was partially ejected from her vehicle.

She suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to St. Tammany Parish Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in this crash.

Troopers did obtain blood samples which will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
