Map shows how wages in Louisiana are not friendly to women

Gender equality

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A woman in Louisiana makes 65 cents for every dollar a man makes, according to statistics from the Louisiana Workforce Commission.  That puts Louisiana last in the country when it comes to the wage gap between men and women.

See how your parish pays women compared to men in this map based on the LWC’s stats:

Orleans Parish has the smallest wage gap with women making 80 cents for every dollar a man makes.  Orleans and Jefferson Parishes were the only parishes to reach or exceed the national average of 78 cents.

Supporting legislation to reduce the gender wage gap is part of Governor Edwards’ plan to focus on strengthening families, which includes a proposal to raise the minimum wage in the Louisiana to $8.50.
