ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WGNO) – Mandeville’s April Nelson and Florida’s Mary Katherine Fechtel are early winners of the 2016 Miss America Competition.
Nelson was named preliminary Talent winner Wednesday night after impressing the judges when she sang ‘Climb Every Mountain’ by The Sound Of Music. Nelson will receive a $2,000 scholarship for the win.
Fechtel was named Preliminary Fitness Swimsuit Winner. The Lake County native will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Nelson will represent the Louisiana in the Miss America 2016 competition, which airs Sunday on ABC.
