NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) –  The only school to open in the Lower Ninth Ward will mark the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in song and praise.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter School will host a musical on Saturday, August 29, 2015, in the school’s cafeteria. (Noted gospel artist: Lois Dejean and Pastor Jai Reed will take part in the commemoration.)

Dr. Doris R. Hicks, CEO says, “It is important that we host this commemoration. We know all too well the devastation caused by Katrina. Thankfully, our school district and community is now moving from a sense of recovery, rebirth, and rebuilding to a sense of remembrance, rejoicing, and rejuvenation.”

The students and community will take part in this special tribute remembering their friends and the loved ones lost.

The musical will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School.
