NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Windy weather is expected across the region on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

According to the National Weather Service, a “High Wind Warning” will be in effect. Strong winds up to 70 mph are expected along with possible tornadoes.

In preparation, some schools in the area have announced early dismissal. Here is a list of schools that have announced early dismissal and cancellations.


  • Delgado Community College
    • All locations will close at 2 p.m.
    • A normal schedule will resume on Thursday, March 31
  • Jefferson Parish Public Schools
    • School will be in session on Wednesday, but all after-school activities have been canceled
    • Includes child care, practices, middle school sports, tutoring, and meetings
    • School dismissal and bus transportation will operate on a normal schedule
  • Lafourche Parish School District
    • All schools and offices will remain open on Wednesday as scheduled
    • All after-school activities canceled, After Care will continue as normal
  • Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO)  
    • New Orleans campus will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30 
    • Classes scheduled for afternoon will go virtual
    • Knight Dining Hall will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students encouraged to pick up lunch and dinner as soon as possible
    • Campus will re-open on Thursday, March 31
  • St.Bernard Parish Public Schools
    • All tutoring and after-school activities are canceled for tomorrow, March 30, 2022.
  • St. James Parish School System
    • All St. James Parish schools and buildings will operate under an early dismissal schedule tomorrow, March 30, 2022.
    • Head Start and high schools will dismiss at 1:00 pm and elementary schools will dismiss at 1:30 pm.
    • All after-school activities are canceled.
  • St.John the Baptist Parish Public Schools
    • Wednesday, March 30, 2022, all SJBP after-school activities and the community forum for Emily C. Watkins will be canceled.
  • St. Tammany Parish Public School System
    • All afterschool activities, including sports, clubs, and events, have been canceled.
    • Normal schedules.
    • Aftercare will follow the normal schedules.

  • Tangipahoa Parish School System
    • All schools will have a normal day of school. However, all after-school activities will be canceled on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.
  • Trinity Episcopal School
    • Trinity Episcopal School will be closing aftercare for all grades at 4:30 p.m.
    • All after-school sports and other programs are canceled.
