COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — On the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, carnival fans bundled up to enjoy parades on a chilly Mardi Gras morning. The krewes of Lions Club and Covington are traditions on Mardi Gras.  Both krewes trace their roots to the 1950s. The parades worked their way down Columbia and Boston streets then around the Old Covington area to make a second pass down the route. Previously, the Krewe of Lyra moved from the Mandeville route to Covington to follow the other two parades.  In fact, many carnival outlets listed Lyra on their parade schedule for 2015, but the krewe did not roll. Above is a photo gallery of Lions and Covington.
