NEW ORLEANS(WGNO)-Sheriff Newell Normand reports, this afternoon around 2:00 PM, an inmate identified as Maurice Turner, attempted to escape from the rear yard following his recreation period.
Turner attempted to scale a fence surrounding the prison, when he fell and slit his wrist on the barrier of razor wire securing the yard. Turner fell to the ground unresponsive from the massive loss of blood. JPCC personnel as well as medical personal quickly responded and were successful in stabilizing Turner.
He was transported to University Hospital for treatment with not life threatening injuries. Turner is currently incarcerated for 2 counts of Theft, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Stolen Things along with numerous attachments. He will be re-booked with the additional charge of Simple Escape.
