NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)–Voters in Jefferson Parish broke heavily for Republicans Tuesday night, as Donald Trump won a clear majority of the presidential vote and State Treasurer John Kennedy claimed three out of every ten ballots in his push for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Kennedy is poised to face Democrat Foster Campbell in a December 10 runoff.

Incumbent House Representatives enjoyed a good night, both in Jefferson Parish and statewide.  Democrat Cedric Richmond and Republican Steve Scalise cruised to easy re-election.

Kenner’s mayoral race was set for a run-off vote in December, as City Councilman Ben Zahn took 49% of the vote.  Zahn, a Republican, will face Democrat and fellow councilman Gregory Carroll.  Carroll secured fewer than half the votes Zahn did, but the presence of two other Republicans in the mayoral race may have cost Zahn a win outright.
