TERREBONNE PARISH (WGNO) – Detectives with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman for child abuse on Wednesday morning.
Authorities say a 13-year-old girl told TPSO detectives that she had been beaten by her mother with a belt, multiple times throughout the week. She also told police that her mother forced her to drink hot sauce and drug her around the house by her hair.
Detectives say the teen had severe bruising on several areas of her body.
The child’s mother, Gricelda Mejia, 33, of Houma, was arrested for one count of cruelty to a juvenile. She awaits a bond hearing at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex.
The teen has been placed in a safe environment.
