NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A fundraiser is planned Wednesday evening to help a New Orleans native injured during Sunday’s mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

Leonel Melendez was shot in the head and leg. He is currently in a coma.

The event will be at The Friendly Bar at 2301 Chartres Street from 7-9 p.m.

“Come to the Friendly Bar for meat night (bring your own meat for the grill, all sides provided) and we will be collecting donations at the door and throughout the night. Happy hour prices will be extended until 9:00,” the Facebook invite said.

100% of the money raised will go toward Melendez’s recovery costs.

Friends of Melendez have also set up a GoFundMe account. So far $22,200 has been raised.
