NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Ted Brennan, a member of the notable New Orleans Brennan family and former owner of Brennan’s on Royal Street, has died, the Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group confirmed.
Brennan, according to Nola.com, was 68 years old and suffered from Parkinson’s Disease, though his cause of death is not yet known.
Ted Brennan was the son of Owen Brennan, the man who started the family’s journey into the restaurant business when he opened Owen Brennan’s Vieux Carre on Bourbon Street. In 1955, the restaurant moved to its current location at 417 Royal Street.
Ted Brennan ran Brennan’s on Royal for 40 year with two of his brothers. He and his brother Pip lost the Brennan’s building in 2013 and eventually lost the business in bankruptcy. It was bought by Terry White and Ted Brennan’s cousin, Ralph Brennan.
“My family and I are saddened by the death of my cousin Ted Brennan. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” Ralph Brennan said in a prepared statement.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
