Deputies say man murdered woman, disposed of burned body

BOGALUSA, LA (WGNO) — Washington Parish deputies say they’re trying to find out why a man would kill a woman and dump her body.  They say the body was so badly burned that they will wait for DNA evidence to confirm the victim’s identity.

According to deputies, the case began at about 2:00 Wednesday morning, Aug. 3, when someone walked into the Bogalusa Police department and reported that a murder had taken place at a home south of the city.  They are not identifying the person or his/her connection to the murder beyond initially reporting it.

Washington Parish deputies responded and found Charles Joseph “Joey” Mixon at the scene at 61480 Shorty Bush Road.

Deputies say Mixon confessed to the crime and led them to the spot where he disposed of the body.

The WPSO received help from Louisiana State Police and Bogalusa Police with the investigation.  Detectives remained at the crime scene most of the day on Wednesday.   Deputies say they’re also checking the woman’s car, purse, and other personal belongings to find any additional clues that could shed more light on the case.

While deputies wait for DNA confirmation on the woman’s identity, the say she was from Saint Tammany Parish and her family members have been notified of her death.

Mixon was booked with murder.  As of Thursday morning, no bond had been set.
