LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (WGNO) – The death toll from the devastating Louisiana floods is now at 13 people.

The body of an elderly woman in Livingston Parish was found Wednesday, as was the body of a 50-year-old man in Denham Springs, also in Livingston Parish, according to state records.

Three people died in Tangipahoa Parish, two people died in St. Helena Parish, five people died in East Baton Rouge Parish and one person died in Rapides Parish.

So far, 20 parishes have been declared federal disaster areas, which means affected residents are eligible for federal aid.

Although the historic rain event ended days ago, backwater flooding is pushing water into areas that didn’t flood during the storm.

St. James Parish and areas surrounding Acadiana are under flood warnings because of backwater flooding.
