NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A construction worker died today from injuries sustained while working on the flood-control project on Napoleon Avenue.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers confirmed that a worker died, but a spokesman said he cannot release any additional information.

“I believe I can speak for everyone at the Corps in saying that our condolences and deepest sympathies go out to the family,” Corps spokesman Ricky Boyett said. “The Corps’ top priority is safety and above all, that every team member, whether a Corps employee or contractor, safely returns home to their families when the job is done. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide comment during an active investigation.”

The Corps has been installing underground canals on Napoleon Avenue for the past few years. It’s part of a large flood-control project.
