NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The Coast Guard swept to the rescue early this morning to save a cruise ship passenger in need of dialysis.
The Coast Guard launched a 45-foot response boat around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night after receiving a call for assistance from the Carnival Triumph, according to a Coast Guard press release.
Around 1:30 a.m. this morning, the Coast Guard boat met up with the cruise ship about 14 miles south of Southwest Pass in the Gulf of Mexico below the mouth of the Mississippi River.
The response boat was launched from the Coast Guard station in Venice, and the 60-year-old woman in need of dialysis was evacuated safely from the cruise ship to that station for medical treatment, the Coast Guard reported.
