PARADIS, La. (WGNO)  – Corporal Burt Hazeltine, the deputy shot last Thursday while directing traffic in a school zone in Paradis, Louisiana was released from University Hospital late Tuesday evening.

He was shot three times, once near his left eye, once in his arm and again in the chest and has undergone extensive surgery.

To help the Hazeltine family, a benefit lunch/dinner is scheduled for Thursday April 23rd at the Shriner’s Hall in Destrehan.

There are three meal options for $10 a plate. To order call 985-783-1355, lunch orders of 12 or more can be delivered in St. Charles Parish between 11am-2pm.

Entertainment will be provided from 5pm-8pm and all of the proceeds will go directly to the Hazeltine family.
