Attorneys for Bourbon Street shooting suspect ask for witness names

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The lawyer for Trung Le, the man accused of killing one person and injuring 9 others in an incident on Bourbon last year, appeared in appeals court Tuesday, trying to gain access to the names of witnesses to the incident.

Le’s attorney Martin Regan appeared before a three-judge panel in the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals to ask that he be granted access to the names of witnesses to the shootings that have been kept secret by the Orleans District Attorney’s Office.

Those names have been kept secret by prosecutors over fears for the safety of those witnesses.

Regan, who is claiming that Le acted in self-defense, shooting at an unknown subject who had allegedly pulled a gun on him, says that access to these witnesses is necessary for him to verify Le’s claims.

Prosecutors argued against the release of the names.

No word on when the three-judge panel will make a ruling on this case.

Le’s trial is on hold until that ruling comes down.
