NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Retired Archbishop Francis B. Schulte died peacefully Sunday evening.
According to the Archdiocese of New Orleans, the 89-year-old Archbishop who served as Archbishop of New Orleans from 1989 until 2001, died in Philadelphia.
Archbishop Schulte was born December 23, 1926, in Philadelphia.
He was ordained to the priesthood May 10, 1952, and ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia in 1981.
He also served as Bishop of Wheeling-Charleston, West Virginia from 1985-1988 before coming to New Orleans.
