NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) –  After Zulu, the Rex parade was rolling down St. Charles Avenue. This year’s theme was Royal Gardens.

Each float depicted a famous garden from history and each float had its own unique throws.

When the parade reached Gallier Hall, this year’s King of Carnival, Mike Kearney, gave the mayor his words of wisdom.

“I just want to say as we come up on our 300th year, our great port and our great city, there’s one thing they can’t say any more, Mitch.  And that is that we ain’t got no bananas,” Rex said.

The next stop for Rex was at the Intercontinental Hotel where he toasted his queen, Yale University student Adelaide Goodyear.
