NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The New Orleans Building Corporation (NOBC) plans to fence-off parking lots under the Pontchartrain Expressway. The four parking lots along Calliope Street from St. Charles Avenue to S. Rampart Street/Loyola Avenue will be fenced and used for parking.

The lots now are mostly utilized by the city’s homeless.

The agency said erecting a fence will honor the city’s 2014 agreement to develop the area under the Pontchartrain Expressway and allow city officials to have better managed control while NOBC negotiates with parties interested in leasing the parking lots. The parking lots will remain closed to parking until an operator is selected.

NOBC estimates the fencing to cost $332,000.

The fence should be up by mid-April.
