DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (WGNO) – The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office released more information Wednesday, about damage and rescue efforts throughout the parish following torrential rains and flooding last week.
Officials said 75 percent of homes in the parish saw anywhere between 2 to 8 feet of water. Deputies expect that percentage to grow as more areas of Livingston Parish become accessible.
Parish officials also performed 15,000 to 20,000 rescues since Friday, August 12. Rescues are still going on throughout the parish, but they are said not to be as urgent.
More than 1,200 Livingston Parish residents spent Tuesday night in shelters. At its height, parish officials said about 8,500 people sought temporary housing.
Looting arrests have been made in Livingston Parish in connection with minor incidents like the theft of alcohol and cigarettes. The sheriff has said looting will not be tolerated.
