COVINGTON – A seven-year-old boy was struck by a truck and killed in the parking lot of a Covington shopping center this morning.
The fatal incident occurred in the Shoppes Nord du Lac parking lot on Highway 21 around 10:30 a.m., according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The truck, which was driven by a 32-year-old Madisonville man, struck the boy in a corner of the parking lot.
The child was transported to a local hospital, where he died.
Impairment is not suspected, and no citations have been issued, according to the STPSO.
The truck driver voluntarily submitted to a blood alcohol screening.
