I like Governor Bobby Jindal. I think he’s done a pretty good job as Governor. At the very least the perception of Louisiana and how we do business has changed and you can thank Jindal for that. Actually, former governor Kathleen Blanco got the ball rolling on basic business reforms and Jindal has embraced them.
The state has seen tremendous job growth during one of this country’s worst recessions. Jindal deserves a lot of the credit. Jindal also deserves a lot of the credit for playing political games up in Baton Rouge. Sometimes the Governor is more interested in being Louisiana’s Republican governor than just Louisiana’s governor. Often what’s best for Louisiana is overshadowed by what’s best for the national Republican Party and Jindal’s future in it.
The Governor just vetoed hard-fought legislation to pour about half a billion dollars into the downtown riverfront. The bill would have provided direct and indirect funding to tear down the old World Trade Center building and, more importantly, would have provided state assistance on building about half a billion dollars worth of new riverfront development.
Now, for the first time in nearly half a century, the legislators may go back into session strictly to override the governor’s veto. Talk about a waste of taxpayer money.
I like governor Bobby Jindal. I think he’s done a pretty good job as governor. I just like him a lot better when he’s worrying about Louisiana first and not national politics or future political aspirations.
