NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Today is a day to celebrate and honor the margarita!  It’s National Margarita Day and News with a Twist Reporter Kenny Lopez had no problem imbibing and celebrating this beloved cocktail!

In honor of National Margarita Day on February 22nd let’s take a look at some fun facts about the margarita.

  • The margarita was invented in 1938.
  • Margarita means “daisy flower” in Spanish.
  • The top 3 states for drinking margaritas are: California, Florida, and Texas.

Here in Louisiana, at Araña Taqueria Y Cantina they have hundreds of different types of tequila to satisfy all your margarita desires.

“At this point, I think that the margarita is an essential American cocktail.  Everyone has had a margarita, in college and has had an experience with a margarita and the tequila whether it was bad, good, or indifferent,” Armand Gonzalzles, General Manager of Araña said.

There are many different ways to drink a margarita.  On the rocks? Salt rim? Frozen?

“So many varieties of margaritas.  We’ll add pineapple, jalapenos, whatever people want.  There are many things you can do with a margarita.  We even make champagne margaritas here,” he said.

The origin of National Margarita Day is unknown, but no one’s complaining.  It just gives us another reason to drink the beloved cocktail! Ole!

-2 times as many Americans prefer frozen margaritas.

-65 percent of Americans like their rims salted.

-1 in 3 people say margaritas are their favorite happy hour drink.
