Homicide, fire victims in River Road blaze identified; boyfriend of one victim arrested

OLD JEFFERSON, La. (WGNO) – The three people who were killed in a triple homicide on River Road Monday have been identified.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the three victims in the homicide are 46-year-old Dwayne Hanson; his wife, 45-year-old Samantha Hanson, and their daughter, 20-year-old Sydney Hanson.

The suspect, Jatory Evans, is the ex-boyfriend of Sydney Hanson. He was arrested in New Orleans East today and booked on three counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree feticide. Sydney Hanson was 7 months pregnant. Evans is believed to be the baby’s father.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said Dwayne Hanson and Samantha Hanson were both employed at Laitram in Harahan. The couple went home for lunch around noon Monday, and shortly after is when witnesses say they heard multiple gunshots. Dwayne Hanson was shot twice. Samantha Hanson was shot five times and stabbed 20-25 times.

Firefighters responded Monday afternoon to a house fire at 4103 River Road. Samantha Hanson was found face down in the front yard, while Dwayne Hanson was found in the kitchen area of the home.Firefighters retreated from the home until they could determine that there wasn’t an active shooter inside. Several hours later, responders found the body of Sydney Hanson in what’s believed to be her bedroom. She had been stabbed multiple times, and there were materials with accelerant on top of her body.

Sydney Hanson’s coworkers had planned a baby shower for Sydney at 11 a.m. Monday. She never showed up for the shower.

Sydney Hanson had a restraining order against Evans, and Evans was also a suspect in slashing Dwayne Hanson’s tire after a confrontation between the two at the Hansons’ home Oct. 26.
