SLIDELL, LA (WGNO) — It’s like in Chicago when they dye the river green for St. Patrick’s Day.  Except in Slidell, it’s a fountain and it’s pink.

And there are no leprechauns.  Instead, the real people here are raising awareness about a serious subject, breast cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  To help raise awareness, the staff at Slidell Memorial Hospital Regional Cancer Center dumped dye into the facility’s fountain to turn it pink, the official color of the awareness campaign.

The Saint Tammany Fire Protection District #1 helped dress-up the event and provided a bunch of pictures on its Facebook page.  Click below to see the pics.

The event included medical workers as well as cancer patients and survivors.

The fountain will remain pink for the rest of the month!
