GRETNA, La. (WGNO) – The city of Gretna’s ferry terminal will become the home port for French America line’s deluxe, 150-person passenger vessel, the Louisiane.

French AmericaLine is a startup riverboat cruise line, offering premium tours along America’s waterways. Christopher Kyte said the inside of the boat will resemble a Four Seasons hotel or Ritz Carlton on the river. The boat has three clubs, a casual dining room, and all beverage services are included in the fare.

“We go everywhere, on the longer trips we go to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Louis, Nashville, shorter trips go to Memphis and Chattanooga, we kind of go all over depending on time of year,” said Kyte.

The cruise will be running anything from 14-day trips to weekend trips, and fare ranges from $300 a night and upward depending on size of cabin and how long the stay is.

The economic impact of the new cruise line will create about 83 jobs in Jefferson Parish. French America lines is investing $7.3 million in Jefferson Parish alone. The total economic impact is expected to be $58 million.
