Governor Bobby Jindal helped break ground on a new Delgado Community College campus in Eastern New Orleans.

The first phase of what is being called the Sydney Collier Campus is expected to be completed in about a year.

School workers say the project will allow the college to expand its curriculum and broaden existing programs.

Jindal praised Delgado for providing opportunities to train the region’s job force.

Since 2008, Louisiana has spent $700 million in critical higher education infrastructure across the state including at Delgado.
