NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)–Marvel Entertainment released its new trailer for “Captain America: Civil War,” starring Chris Evans as the titular superhero.

Tuesday night, Evans and Robert Downey, Jr., who has played Tony Stark/Iron Man in the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in a bit of corporate synergy.  ABC and Marvel are both owned by Disney.

The film puts Avengers teammates Captain America and Iron Man at odds with one another.  We don’t have a copy of the script or anything, but assuming it follows the general outline of the Civil War story in the comics:

  • A large-scale crisis is caused by, exacerbated by, or blamed on superheroes;
  • The government pushes through a superhero registration act;
  • Stark sides with the government, Rogers opposes it;
  • Action ensues.

The trailer promises to expand the Marvel world as we’ve seen it so far.  It includes Sebastian Stan as “Bucky” Barnes, Rogers’ childhood friend presumed KIA during WWII only to become brainwashed Soviet assassin, The Winter Soldier.  It also features New Orleans native Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/The Falcon and The Black Panther, portrayed in the film by Chadwick Boseman (42).

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6, 2016.
