NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Jazz Fest was rained out Saturday, but headliner Stevie Wonder tried to make it up to fans with two shows on Saturday and Sunday night.
Wonder played with Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra.
Mayfield told WGNO that both performances were something to cherish.
“It’s amazing to spend that kind of time with an artist. it’s very rare, you know, no longer having Michael Jackson, no longer having Prince,” Mayfield said. “Stevie Wonder sits in a rare space as an icon. To share two nights with him on stage for hours with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and also at Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouses. It’s special. It’s historic.”
Wonder made it to the Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse in the French Quarter Saturday night, and stayed in New Orleans to show up with the band Sunday night at their House of Blues Stevie Tribute Show. Both nights also featured Trombone Shorty.
