NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Ian Somerhalder appreciates his young fans and is also dedicated to their futures and the place where they live.
“And this is our home. This is my home. This is the place that raised me,” Somerhalder told WGNO News during a recent one-on-one interview.
Recently, Somerhalder has been an outspoken critic of a proposed fracking project in St. Tammany Parish, the parish where he grew up.
“The message we need to send clearly is it’s not going to happen. It’s too great a risk,” he said of the proposed oil well. “I literally lived in these bayous as a little boy with mud in between my toes, and everything we ate came from the bayou or the lake.”
Somerhalder has his own foundation that focuses on a variety of environmental issues. Plans are also in the works to build an animal shelter.
As admired as Somerhalder is for his work on the hit series The Vampire Diaries and his environmental work, WGNO asked who he admires. Click on the video button above to see his response.
