One day before she took center stage at the Super Bowl halftime show, Beyonce released her latest single since 2014, and it hits close to home for many New Orleanians. In the video, Beyonce pays homage to her roots of New Iberia.

The video features Queen Bey singing on top of a sinking NOPD cruiser. There’s also references to Hurricane Katrina and police brutality.  On a lighter note,  Beyonce gave her daughter Blue Ivy some screen time.

Besides featuring several New Orleans neighborhoods, you might recognize familiar voices. The first voice you hear on the track is slain New Orleans rapper Messy Mya. Queen of Bounce Big Freedia can be heard speaking around the 1:10 mark.

Freedia told Fuse.tv she was utterly shocked when Beyonce contacted her.

“It was a total shocker when I got a call from Beyonce’s publicist and she said Beyoncé wanted me to get on this track… It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I was beyond honored to work with the original Queen B. I think it turned out amazing too!”

“Formation” is available to stream and download free, exclusively through Tidal.

Fans suspected something was in the works given how quiet Beyonce has been leading up to the halftime show.

Right after her Super Bowl performance a commercial aired promoting her “Formation” tour starting in April.

Sadly no stops will be in New Orleans.
