78935299BATON ROUGE, La. (WGNO) – State lawmakers can celebrate the fact that they do not have to return to the State Capitol today. The legislature adjourned the 2014 legislative session Monday evening.

“We’ve had a great session and I would like to thank the Legislature for their hard work,” Gov. Bobby Jindal said. “With their help, we have accomplished new achievements for the people of Louisiana.”

One of new legislation awaiting Gov. Jindal’s signature is a bill that would limit where welfare recipients can use federal money. Under the new law people with Louisiana Purchase Cards (Louisiana EBT) would no longer be allowed to use those funds at lingerie shops, nail salons, tattoo parlors and any business with an age restriction of 18 or older.

HB 1176 tightens guidelines on state legislation passed in 2013, which banned the use of EBT cards for alcohol, cigarettes and lottery tickets.

Another bill, on the governor’s desk will raise the cost of a saltwater fishing license from $5.50 to $13.

The funds from the rate hike are earmarked for research and conservation of saltwater fisheries.

That bill is HB 1082.
