NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Big names came out to show support for Will Smith’s family, as Cardell Hayes, the man who shot and killed him, stands trial.
New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees and former teammates Steve Gleason, Roman Harper and Deuce McAllister were seen at the courthouse.
Protesters backing Hayes were also out at the courthouse with signs.
Families from both sides filled the front rows.
Smith’s wife Raquel, who was shot by Hayes in the leg, was visibly upset. Minutes after sitting down she started audibly crying in the court room.
The jury, which was selected yesterday, is made up of eight women and four men.
