Deputies: Man shoots dog then dies in house fire he intentionally set

CHOCKTAW, LA (WGNO) — Lafourche Parish deputies say a man died in a house fire at his own home on Thursday, September 22.  They also say the intentionally set the fire.

The man is identified as 58-year-old Samuel Farace, Junior.  It happened at a house in the 200 block of Choctaw School Road.

According to the LPSO, deputies and firefighters responded to the report of a fire at about 3:15 in the afternoon.  After putting out the flames, they found Farace’s body just inside the front door of the home.  Also inside the home, they found Farace’s dog.  They say he shot and killed the dog with a rifle.

After further investigation, they also discovered that Farace intentionally set the fire.  Volunteer firefighters from Choctaw, Bayou Boeuf, St. John, and Chackbay along with the Lafourche Crossing 308 Fire Department responded to the scene.

The Lafourche sheriff’s office and state fire marshal are overseeing the investigation.
