UPDATE: Later on Wednesday night (Oct. 12), just before 11 p.m., investigators released more information on the incident that left two victims in the hospital. According to the NOPD, upon further investigation, detectives determined one of the victims was a 17-year-old girl.

Police say that a 28-year-old woman was shot and a 17-year-old was injured by glass shrapnel.

WGNO news teams arrived on the scene and observed a gate at the Orleans Parish Jail that was damaged. Officials told WGNO that the two were driving when they were shot at which caused them to crash into it.

The condition of the victims is unknown at the time. This investigation is ongoing. NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A shooting in Mid-City Wednesday sent two victims to the hospital, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Just before 7 p.m., the NOPD responded to a call of a shooting in the 600 block of South Gayoso Street. When officers arrived, two women were found, one with a gunshot wound and the other with injuries from glass shrapnel. They were taken to the hospital by EMS but their conditions were not released.

No further details are available at this time but the NOPD is in the process of gathering evidence and information in order to determine a possible suspect and motive.
