Stolen fish truck leads to police chase from French Quarter to Metairie

METAIRIE, LA — It was a routine delivery on Iberville Street in the French Quarter. A New Orleans Fish House worker had stopped to drop off some oysters, crawfish or whatever else the customer wanted at a hotel.

That’s when a thief jumped behind the wheel of the delivery truck and led multiple Law enforcement agencies on a chase to to the lakefront and into Metairie, eventually ending with a crash and scuffle on West Esplanade Avenue near Causeway Boulevard.

According to Bill Bourges, the owner of New Orleans Fish House, a woman jumped into one of his company’s trucks. When the truck made it to lakefront area, police with the East Bank Levee District joined the chase.

From the lakefront, the truck moved through Bucktown and down West Esplanade Avenue toward the corner of Causeway Boulevard. That’s where the truck crashed into a levee district police car and a pickup truck that was being driven by someone who was stopped at the intersection.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said that one of the levee district police officers fired two shots at the truck, flattening a tire.

After a struggle with the woman, she was taken into custody. Lopinto says that she has a long list of warrants in Orleans and Jefferson parish.
