LAPLACE (WGNO) – Louisiana State Police are investigating the case of a St. John Parish Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed by a fellow officer.

Deadly force when the deputy fired several shots at other deputies.

WGNO News Reporter Darian Trotter has details, and the latest on the investigation.

“This is unbelievable what I’m hearing you know,” family friend Connie Wilson said.

It is news no one in this close knit community wants to believe — a well-known, veteran officer with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office shot and killed by a fellow deputy.

“No other deputy shot, no other deputy injured,” Louisiana State Trooper Melissa Matey said.

It happened just before 2 o’clock Wednesday.

Lt. Nolan Anderson was in the middle of a domestic dispute with his wife, when investigators say he used his radio to call deputies to his daughter’s home, located in the 200 block of Pine Street – in Laplace.

Officers arrived and the situation quickly escalated. Investigators say Anderson refused to drop his service weapon. Instead he allegedly fired several shots.

“He was firing into the air, the weapon was pointed at deputies and they had to take lethal action in order to protect them and also to protect his lt. Anderson’s wife,” Matey said.

Anderson was air-lifted to River Parishes Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His wife Lisa Anderson was reportedly pistol wiped and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Family friends were caught off guard by the commotion that took over the neighborhood.

“Because I have known them to have anything like this you know; it’s surprising,” Wilson explained. “And I’m hurt behind it because I been knowing the both of them and I been known Nolan practically all my life.”

Anderson is being remembered as a dedicated officer, who for reason’s still unknown, went into a fit of rage; forcing fellow officers to use deadly force.

“Very good officer. Life if full of decisions. He made a decision today; we had to make a decision to use lethal force. Wish we could change it. We can’t. Hopefully the sun will come up tomorrow,” St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said.

Lt. Nolan Anderson was on-duty during the incident. It’s unclear why he made a stop at his daughter’s home.  State police are investigating events leading up to the shooting.
