NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) Project NOLA wants to help police officers solve crimes but says the NOPD isn’t cooperating.

Project NOLA has 1,400 surveillance cameras throughout New Orleans.  On Monday, the organization says it was trying to alert the NOPD’s command desk about shots fired in the Seventh Ward but calls were either disconnected or not picked up.

Project NOLA’s founder, Bryan Lagarde, says he wants the NOPD to provide him a unit and police radio so he can better communicate with officers directly.

“The current way of the NOPD having us contact them is failing. When we have critical information and we can’t give that critical information to somebody live in real-time when it helps the police officers.  That’s a fail and we’re concerned what that might mean in the future.”

The NOPD tells WGNO they’re thankful for the surveillance video and images Project NOLA provides them and will continue to work with the organization on fighting crime to protect the citizens of New Orleans.
