NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)— The New Orleans Police Department began investigating a shooting that happened early Friday evening.

According to police, the shooting happened near the intersection of North Broad Street and Dumaine Street.

According to police, at around 4:31 p.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a call of aggravated battery by shooting at the location. 

Upon arrival, officers found a 36-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound(s).

He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators are in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. 

No additional details are available at this time.  The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
