NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The NOPD has reported a fatal hit-and-run incident at the intersection of General DeGaulle Drive and Westbend Parkway on the Westbank in Algiers, La.

Initial reports show a male victim having been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Initial notification was received at about 8:51 p.m., with confirmation coming at 9:29 p.m.

A secondary report received from the NOPD at 11 p.m. revealed the victim was on a bicycle when he was hit.

Officers determined that a bicyclist was traveling southbound on Westbend Parkway attempting to cross the intersection when he disregarded a red traffic light.

An unknown automobile traveling westbound on General DeGaulle which had a green traffic light then entered the intersection, struck the bicyclist and continued its travel.

The victim was transported via EMS to a hospital, where he was declared deceased.
