NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Police began investigating a homicide that left one man dead in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward.

On Friday afternoon around 3:15, NOPD responded to a location in the 2000 block of Alabo Street. The initial call indicated an aggravated battery by shooting.

When they arrived, officers discovered a 27-year-old man sitting in the driver’s seat of a car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.

On Tuesday, January 25, Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim to be 27 year-old Renard Fornette. His official cause of death has been listed as a gunshot wound.

Other details of the shooting, including a suspect and motive, were not available.
