MONROE, La. (WGNO) – The district attorney in Monroe announced today that drug and weapons charges against two University of Alabama football players have been dropped.

Cam Robinson and Laurence ‘Hootie’ Jones were arrested last month in Monroe after police spotted them in a park after hours.  Officers found marijuana and two handguns in their car.

District Attorney Jerry Jones is dropping charges because he says he can’t prove who was in possession of the guns and drugs, but that’s not all.

He also had this to say about the case:

“I want to emphasize once again: the main reason I’m doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and their teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all home in the air conditioning, to play football.”
