NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man has been wounded in a shooting incident in the Seventh Ward neighborhood.
Around 3:00 a.m., officers responded to shots fired in the 2400 block of Elysian Fields Ave. At the scene, officers said they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Details released in the NOPD’s Major Offense Log indicate three suspects — two White males and one unknown suspect — are believed to have been involved in the incident. Detectives say the unknown suspect approached the victim from behind, shot the man multiple times, and ran away. The two White male suspects then reportedly stole the man’s belongings and also ran away.
The victim later died, according to the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office. On Tuesday, the victim was identified as 61-year-old Rory Gonlag. The preliminary cause of his death has been listed as a gunshot wound.
The incident is under investigation.
