NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A homicide victim found with multiple gunshot wounds who was initially believed to be struck by a train has now been identified as 14-year-old boy Dominic Tomlin.

On Wednesday (Nov. 16th) the New Orleans Police Department announced the location of the unidentified male body shortly after midnight. According to detectives that the lifeless body now identified as Tomplin, was found on railroad tracks in the 6300 block of Peoples Avenue, just west of Pontchartrain Park. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although initial reports indicated that Tomplin was struck by a passing train, the his body was discovered to have been shot multiple times, revealing him to be a murder victim. The investigation was reclassified from an unclassified death to a homicide.

Detectives are still sorting through evidence. At this time there is no possible suspect or motive for the homicide. Anyone with any additional information regarding the investigation is urged to contact NOPD.
