THIBODAUX, La. (WGNO) – A Thibodaux man accused of stealing cash from video poker machines in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes was arrested last week after trying to evade deputies by swimming across Bayou Lafourche.

According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Drake Domangue was identified as the suspect who entered a Thibodaux casino May 29, tampered with the video poker machine’s cash box and left the casino after stealing several hundred dollars.

He’s also accused of stealing from other video poker machines in Terrebonne Parish.

On Monday, June 6, deputies in Assumption Parish tried to make a traffic stop on a driver who was speeding on La. 1. The driver, later identified as Domangue, fled from deputies, drove the vehicle into Bayou Lafourche and tried to swim across the bayou. He was quickly apprehended by other deputies who responded.

The vehicle Domangue drove into the bayou was reported stolen in Terrebonne Parish.

Deputies found suspected methamphetamine on Domangue and syringes in the stolen vehicle.

Domangue was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Jail on charges of DWI, resisting an officer with force or violence, flight from an officer, possession of stolen property, drug possession, felony theft, criminal damage to coin-operated devices, and multiple traffic violations.
